Advice for evening wear

'Black tie' means wearing a dinner suit or tuxedo - either single or double breasted - but not necessarily with a black bow tie.  Although in the instance of formal functions, black bow ties with matching cummerbunds are recommended.  For less formal functions, be as individual as you like with a colourful bow tie, matching waistcoat or cummerbund with a pocket handkerchief.   Cummerbunds are worn with pleats opening upwards.  Shoes are black and well polished, preferably patent.  Dress shirts should be plain or wing collared with a pleated front.

Occasions for evening wear :

Dinner wear
All 'black tie' events such as dinners, balls and receptions.

White tuxedos
Also for many 'black tie' events, especially in the summer - a favourite at Glynebourne and on cruises.

Dress tails
'White tie' events such as formal banquets, livery dinners and state occasions.

Other Occasions
See invitation, consult with the host or ask us for assistance.

Advice for highland wear

In the case of Highland  wear, Highland dress will set off any occasion.

For daytime ceremonies, Crail Highland dress should be worn, although the Prince Charlie evening dress outfit can now be worn for daytime weddings.  As an alternative, a Tweed outfit can also be worn.

For evening function, the Price Charlie evening dress outfit is traditional.  A black bow tie should be worn with the outfit, even to 'white tie' functions.

Tartans should only be worn if you are permitted to do so, although nowadays this is slightly more relaxed.  A number of stock tartans are available, however any tartan is available for hire through our 'bespoke' service.  If you are in any doubt, we would be happy to assist with your enquiries.

Crail

Tweed

Prince Charlie

Advice for prestige wear

Outfits from our 'prestige' range have been designed for weddings, although some can be worn on other occasions.

In the case of weddings, the outfits can accessorised with waistcoats and cravats which will co-ordinate and compliment the bridal theme and the groom's party. Our staff would be happy to advise and assist with selections and options. The jacket designs have designed with the theme in mind, enabling the groom and best man to be different from the main party although in keeping with the theme.
